Performance Project

The performance project was one of the most gratifying projects of the entire semester. When the class began discussing the performance project I was stumped. Though it wasn't the most difficult project to start conceptually, it was surprising in that it was the first that presented a block. Most projects I have an "aha!" moment when I realized I'd considered a project in the past that would work well for the parameters of this assignment. Performance and generosity/ giving. After a painstaking long amount of thinking I thought back the the simplicity of a piece done by Bruce Nauman in which he repeats a backward step at an awkward angle for a seven second film. Then it hit me. Repeat a simple act of giving. I had bubbles so I blew them stoically one at a time on the viewers. I tried to replicate the experience as identical as I could for each. The response was amazing. People were filled with child like wonder and joy. Their smiles corroborated everything I knew about bubbles. They a bliss in pure form, innocent and sweet. It was a simple success.
